The IMTPC Outstanding Mentor Award was established by the College Reading and Learning Association's (CRLA's) International Mentor Training Program Certification (IMTPC) committee. The award, given annually to an undergraduate student mentor, will honor individuals who contribute much to the success of their peers and motivate and inspire others through their dedication and passion for their work.

The nominated mentor must be an undergraduate and certified through a CRLA certified mentor program who has reached the highest level offered by his/her program as documented by copies of CRLA certificates indicating the nominee's level of certification.

The nominee must provide a current official transcript demonstrating a minimum 3.0 GPA, a letter of recommendation from one of her/his course professors who is not directly affiliated with the mentor program, and a letter of recommendation from her/his mentor program supervisor. Please Note: Institutions can only submit one nomination per mentoring program.

The nominee must submit an original essay of 500 words (not to exceed 750) addressing the topic, Ways of Mentoring- the impact of peer support in student success.  This original essay should follow appropriate APA format and should highlight the nominee’s experience as a mentor within his/her institutional program.

Application Process:

All completed applications must be received no later than 11:59 PM on May 18, 2014. Partial or incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will be notified by email of receipt of their application packets.

Application must be completed and submitted with all required documentation.
Completed applications must include the following:

    • Completed nomination form [Word doc]
    • Current official transcript
    • Evidence of nominee’s highest Level of CRLA certification
    • Evidence of mentoring program’s highest Level of CRLA certification
    • Copies of the mentor’s performance evaluation(s) and explanation of the evaluation process
    • Copy of the mentor’s job description
    • Nominee’s completed essay
    • Mentor program supervisor’s written recommendation
    • Faculty member’s written recommendation (see requirements above)

  • Collect all supplemental materials and organize into one file.
  • Upload application file to www.dropbox.com and share the file with hdporter@salisbury.edu.
  • If you cannot access or have trouble using DropBox, please email all materials to hdporter@salisbury.edu.

Award Selection:

All applications will be reviewed and the recipient will be chosen by a selected panel made up of members from the College Reading and Learning Association IMTPC committee. Applicants will be notified by email of the results. Application materials cannot be returned.

The award recipient will be notified of their selection and invited to attend the College Reading and Learning Association’s annual conference that fall. The award recipient will receive a plaque and a small honorarium stipend to assist with conference attendance.
